Easily one of her most signature tunes Better The Devil You Know was released 31 years ago today. It peaked at No.2 on the UK Album Chart earning Silver certification for sales of over 340,000 copies, No.4 in Ireland and No.4 in Australia where it achieved Platinum status.

Written & produced by Stock, Aiken and Waterman it was the first single released from her third studio album Rhythm of Love which also spawned another three singles: Step Back In Time, What Do I Have To Do & Shocked. It’s widely thought amongst her fan base that this was her strongest run of singles released from one album.

The iconic video directed by Paul Goldman was a much sexier look for her, frolicking with male torsos and gyrating her hips wearing a skimpy top. Wouldn’t be allowed in Elmore City, that’s for sure! I, for one, was here for it!

Rhythm of Love was a slight departure from her sugar coated 1st & 2nd affairs, showcasing a slightly more mature sound and stronger vocals. The album was another international hit peaking at No.9 on the Uk Album Chart achieving Gold status for selling over 300,000 copies, and hit No.10 in Australia achieving Platinum status.
