5 Star were the very first pop group I was into. They were a family act of brothers and sisters managed by their father and were widely compared to The Jackson 5. They achieved worldwide success in the mid to late 80s with 4 Top 20 albums and 15 Top 40 singles here in the UK. They also won a Brit Award for Best British Group in 1987.

Here Pearson started her set with ‘Can’t Wait Another Minute’ which was a No.7 hit on the UK Chart (No.5 in the US), has always been my personal favourite, I had goosies on my goosies! She also included ‘Rain or Shine’ (UK Chart No.2), ‘System Addict’ (UK Chart No.3), with ‘The Slightest Touch’ (UK Chart No.4) which has since been covered by Louise Redknapp, and more recently Steps, ended her set list. Watch out for the hilarious mic drop moment!
Over the years 5 Star have had many different line ups, with brothers and sisters taking time out from the band, but today Denise is the only original member to feature, with 3 back up dancers.

Denise has recorded plenty of solo material over the years, including Here I Am which is my favourite, and also teamed up with Ryan Tedder of One Republic fame for her album Imprint.

I believe her to be one of the most underrated singers of our generation. The notes and power I witnessed on stage took me by surprise, and I was already a big fan, but an even bigger one now. If you get the chance to see her live, do it! I hope I do again soon!
